PHKA STUDIO OFFICE

Bangkok, Thailand – 2024

Design of an office space for a florist design studio in Bangkok, Thailand

The project is a kind of architecture within architecture; we construct a new building inside a larger warehouse space that already contains the designer’s current office. In between the two buildings, we created a very sculptural storage space connecting two sides in an interesting way (still under construction). The client’s wish was to redesign the whole street facade of the warehouse. That added complexity to the project because we had to deal with the big scale of the street facade from one side and the more intimate scale of the “interior” facade.

For the first one, we decided to explore a very common warehouse material (corrugated metal sheets) but used in a more refined, elaborated way, especially  when it touches the ground and the sky (curvature). The inner facade is more soft and playful. We opted for a very open facade (a system of large windows and full surfaces) covered with translucent curtains. In this way, it could also be used as a perfect backdrop for various shootings the studio hosts during their work.

The interior space consists of 2 big open spaces: one on the ground floor which has a more social character (flower arrangement space, display table, and the “amphitheater” staircase, which will be used for gatherings and events), and one on the upper floor, which is the working area. A series of smaller rooms on the back contain meeting and service rooms. The choice of materials is simple, while the forms and details we use in the design are various dynamic geometries providing richness (and tension) to the overall space in a very subtle way.
